Brainspotting Explained — Brainspotting Canada Association
"Where You Look Affects How You Feel" - David Grand, PhD
Brainspotting is a powerful, focused treatment method that works by identifying, processing and releasing core neurophysiological sources of emotional/body pain, trauma, dissociation and a variety of other challenging symptoms. Brainspotting is a simultaneous form of diagnosis and treatment, enhanced with Bilateral sound, which is deep, direct, and powerful yet focused and containing.
How Devon explains Brainspotting...
With the use of my pointer and your visual field; we discover one or several brainspots. While we stop to focus on those specific spots, this is when your brain starts doing the work for you.
Imagine a filing cabinet, or many filing cabinets within your subcortical brain or midbrain. Through the identification of these brainspots; we are able to open these filing cabinets up and start to go through them. This does not require extra "knowing" or "work" on your part, we allow the brain to do what it does best...process information.
Now, the brain has the opportunity to release or remove the files that no longer serve you or your growth and reorganizes the remaining files in a way that makes sense for your life today. Through dual attunement and a trauma-informed approach, we are able to process this information in a therapeutic way to aid in healing. The brain then gently closes the filing cabinets and we slowly end the session. Brainspotting is just as effective in person as it is through telehealth.
